I have always believed that the best stories are born from the messy, unfiltered truth of our lives. Sitting in my quiet Montreal study, surrounded by the chill of a Canadian evening, I recently completed the initial draft of my upcoming book. It was a milestone I was eager to celebrate. Typing those final words felt like exhaling a breath I had been holding for months. However, as I prepared to share the next chapter of this journey with all of you, I realized we need to take a brief pause. The release is going to be slightly delayed, and I want to be completely honest about why.
This new story draws heavy inspiration from the lived experiences of a dear friend of mine. It explores the deeply personal and sometimes frightening choices she made in her own life. Because her journey so profoundly shaped the narrative, I asked her to read the early draft before anyone else. I wanted her to feel seen. I wanted her to know that her emotional truth was honored and handled with the utmost care. Instead, reading it raised some unexpected and very valid concerns for her.
She felt that her identity was not completely hidden within the pages. Seeing fragments of her real life mirrored so accurately in the text was much more confronting than either of us had anticipated. As she read through the chapters, she became genuinely worried that people close to her might recognize the intimate details of her private world. The fear of being exposed in such a public manner was overwhelming for her. Consequently, she asked me if I could change some of the specific elements in the book to completely obscure her identity.

As an author, my initial instinct is always to protect the story and its raw authenticity. I spend months trying to capture exactly how a moment felt. But as a friend, my instinct is absolutely to protect the person behind the story. She is someone who understands the high stakes of modern Indian romance, the taboo topics we navigate, and the incredible vulnerability required to share them. We are navigating this complex process together right now. I am currently making the necessary adjustments to locations, professions, and minor background details to ensure she feels completely comfortable and secure before this story ever reaches your hands.
In my last update, I mentioned my goal was to publish this second book by the end of July. While I have indeed completed the initial draft, the revision process to protect her privacy will take a little extra time. I am now aiming to publish it by the end of next month, though I do not want to commit to a firm date just yet. Stories that explore the raw, unsaid spaces between people simply cannot be rushed. More importantly, the process of respecting the boundaries of the courageous women who inspire these books cannot be rushed either.
